Mission Trip to Peru

We are happy to announce that Tim Grumblatt has been accepted on the FSSP Mission trip to Peru this year. (Since the kids who go are enthusiastic to return each year, there are many applicants.) Tim is accepted to help introduce this mission to our parish. As a representative of the parish, it is fitting that we should have to help him with the expenses associated with this trip. It will be a great learning experience for all of us. You can see a very nicely done, inspiring, 10-minute documentary video at this link: You can also see here an episode of EWTN’s Life on the Rock with the trip’s fearless leader, Fr. Daniel Heenan, FSSP. Donate online or envelopes available on the back table. Checks payable to St. Joseph Parish.

Holy Land Pilgrimage

See Fliers on Back Table. Maher and Jane Alatrash, the couple who come to sell Olive Wood Carvings, have organized a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. (I spoke with a priest who had been to the Holy Land 5 times and said her trip was the best.) This pilgrimage is limited to 50 (one bus load). Please consider now whether you’d like to come. I want to give you first chance; we need to advertise outside the parish soon to make sure we have enough to go.

How can we cope with our evil times?

There are many things that must be done to cope. One of them is education. To this end, please read an excellent article by Gregory diPippo on New Liturgical Movement called “A Saint to Remember in Evil Days.” We cannot cope with our day without the knowledge of our own historical context. Hard copies can be found on the back table (with the author’s permission) or find the article here:

Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows Devotion

In order to truly convert with all our hearts to Our Lord and lay up treasures in heaven, let us spend some time with Our Lord in the small chapel daily by praying the Chaplet of the 7 Sorrows of Our Lady, with a 20 minute mental prayer added. Let us console the Mother who is consoling her son. The schedule is as follows: Mon, Tues., Thurs., and Saturday: 8 am in the Little Chapel. To join, or for more info, please contact Muriel: 804-819-0920,

Apostolate of Mary, Mother of Priests

Every 3rd Saturday of the month this apostolate attends the 9 am Mass and then meets in the small chapel to pray for vocations, priests, and seminarians. For more information call Louise Caouette-Diman (401) 339-5111

Youth Schola

All youth in the parish who are in second grade or older are invited to join the Youth Schola. The choir sings on numerous Sundays and feast days throughout the year. In the context of sacred liturgical music, the singers learn healthy singing techniques, how to read music notation and many other musical skills. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-4:00PM, begin-ning September 27. All are welcome and there is no fee to participate. Please contact David Pedersen at the parish office for more information.

Rosary Making Bee

4th Tuesday of each month at 11am in the Social Room. Newbie's welcome.

Hospital Rosary Apostolate

The rosary is recited on CCTV at St. Francis Hospital on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 3pm. We need more volunteers to lead. Please call Andria Morris to join the group.

Don't Forget the Unborn

Parishioners are reminded to join fellow pro-life Catholics each first and third Saturday at 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. to pray the Rosary at the abortion mill at Boulevard and Grove in Richmond. This is an important witness to the sanctity of human life and can often convince a mother to preserve the life of her child. Those parishioners who have been there can testify to the efficaciousness of their prayer. For additional information, call Patrick Latimer at 262-7628. Please join the 2013 Public Square Rosary Crusade. As we all know, the United States is in great need of public prayer, repentance and conversion. We must ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother.

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter

Please support the formation of Holy Catholic priests with the priestly vocations assistance campaign. Your contribution is tax-deductible & 100% of the funds go directly to support seminarian formation at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary. For more information, visit the FSSP on the web at or call 570-842-4000. Envelopes are available in the vestibule and the Social Room.

Lost & Found

Please check the Lost & Found Table in the Social Room for any items lost or inadvertently left in the Church. They just might be there! We’ll clear the table after two weeks and dispose of the remaining items.
