Q. When are your English Masses?
A. All of the Masses offered here at St. Joseph Parish are the Traditional Latin Mass.

Q. When are your Spanish Masses?
A. All of the Masses offered here at St. Joseph Parish are the Traditional Latin Mass.

Q. Is the sermon in Latin?
A. No, the priest gives his sermon in English.

Q. Do I have to speak Latin in confession?
A. No. When you enter, the priest will give you a blessing in Latin. Your confession and his advice to you will be in English. While you recite the Act of Contrition in English, the priest whispers the prayers of absolution in Latin.

Q. How can I follow the Mass if I don’t understand Latin?
A. There are booklets available in the pews which show the Latin on the left page and the English translation on the right. The margins offer notes about when to sit/stand/kneel, and explanations of what the priest is doing.

Q. Do women have to cover their heads?
A. Women are encouraged to cover their heads, but it isn’t mandatory.

Q. Is there a dress code?
A. Men: Slacks & dress shirts expected. Shorts or flip flops are not fitting.
Women: Encouraged to cover cleavage, shoulders & knees.

Q. Can I receive Communion on the hand?
A. In the Traditional Latin Mass, Holy Communion is received kneeling down (if able), but always on the tongue, as the priest says the words: “May the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ guard your soul until everlasting life. Amen.” You do not say “Amen” in return.
