Additional Mass Time on Sundays
- Updated on Saturday, September 17, 2016
We are pleased to announce an additional Mass on Sundays for your convenience and edification. We are hoping an afternoon Mass at 4:30 pm will enable greater Mass participation on days when morning attendance is difficult. The main Mass of the day remains the High Mass at 11 am. The early Mass remains at 8:30 am.
Each Sunday is a celebration of the Resurrection from the dead of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He resurrected on the 1st day of the week, as a sign that He was furthering His original work of creation, or effecting a recreation. Catholics are obliged to attend Mass as a way of fulfilling the commandment to keep Holy the Sabbath. This law binds under the pain of mortal sin. The Apostles determined the new covenant had a new sabbath: a commemoration of the Resurrection. In addition, Catholics are also obliged to avoid unnecessary servile labor on the Lord's Day. In justice, we must help others avoid unnecessary servile labor on the Lord's Day. Therefore, unnecessary shopping is not permitted. If no one went to the mall on Sunday, the stores would not be open, and the workers could be with their families.
